Get the Shot: New York City, New York Part 2

Empire State Building standing tall in Manhattan’s skyline

Time:  January 20th, 9:35 am.  It was pretty overcast out when I took this.

Location:  This view is from the Top of the Rock (the highest observation deck of Rockefeller Center).  This was taken from the south side of the building.  I centered myself with the Empire State Building.

Camera Info: Nikon D3200, 17-55mm f2.8 Nikon lens, Aperture: 2.8, Speed: 1/400 second, ISO: 200

If I could do it again:  I would set my aperture smaller than 2.8 to get a better in focus depth of field.  Maybe 3.5.

You have to buy a ticket to go to the Top of the Rock, but I think the view is worth it!

  1. Awesome shot!! I was in NY some years ago, but didn’t get on Top of the Rock!
Will definitely do it next time! :)
And you also know a lot of photography! Better start following you! ;)

    • Thank you! I definitely recommend going to the Top of the Rock. The views were incredible from every angle! And thank you so much, I’m trying to learn as much as I can since photos are my favorite souvenirs from my trips. It’s a lot of trial and error but I’m making progress!!

  2. Awesome shot! I was in NYC for a week last summer and went up to the Top of the Rock for the first time… of course I didn”t buy my DSLR until right after we returned home. But I will have it with me when we go back in July; I can’t wait to try to get some great photos like yours! :)

    • Thank you! I got some great shots up there, I’m sure you’ll get some even better ones in the summer when the weather’s better. I took my best shots at the very top observation deck, resting my camera steady on the ledge (with the strap around my neck). Good luck! Post some of your shots so I can check them out!
